Insights and Advice from GPP’s 2024 Summer Interns

As the end of another busy summer approaches, we’d like to shine a spotlight on our three outstanding summer interns: Rosa Sun, Mauryan Uppalapati and Max Friedman. With an eagerness to contribute to the firm’s client focus and a dedication to learning more about the work, our interns demonstrated their enthusiasm, curiosity and unique perspectives. And after watching the Mets beat the Twins at Citi Field, the interns concluded their time at GPP by presenting their research on how companies are implementing AI and strategies to implement it in comms. Beyond their great work and contribution to projects, they were each a pleasure to work with. You can read what they had to say about their experience at GPP here:

How did you find Gladstone Place Partners and what drew you to financial communications?

Rosa: I found Gladstone through my school's job search platform. I stumbled upon financial communications in my previous summer working in-house at a financial institution, was immediately drawn to the field and knew I wanted to explore the agency side next. What drew me in the most was the fact that this field requires understanding financial concepts, being an excellent writer, avid news reader and team-player—these are the exact skills I would like to constantly practice in my future career.

Max: I found GPP through Handshake. I came to financial communications via a less traditional route. Most of my job experience before GPP was in the political world and I am a politics student at NYU. I wanted to find a field where I could take the writing and communications skills I learned working in politics and apply them to business/finance issues.

How did GPP’s company culture influence your experience?

Rosa: GPP's unique company culture and structure made my experience incredibly valuable. From sitting in the bullpen with the entire firm to being put on multiple client teams, we have all hit the ground running and caught a glimpse of what it's like to be "in the trenches 24/7" with Gladstone's clients. The smallness of the firm made it so easy to get to know everyone and their eagerness to support us and each other has been felt since day one.

Max: The openness of GPP’s culture had a huge impact on my experience this summer. Having the opportunity to sit next to and work with GPP team members of all levels was a fantastic learning experience. I also really appreciated the chance to get coffee/lunch with every member of the team, from analyst to CEO, and ask them all the questions I had about financial comms and their careers.

Mauryan: The company culture at GPP had a significant impact on my experience. From day one, I felt welcomed and supported by everyone on the team. The collaborative environment and open communication channels made it easy to ask questions and learn from GPP's experienced professionals. GPP's emphasis on mentorship and professional growth really stood out to me and helped me develop confidence in my abilities. This supportive culture fostered a sense of belonging and made my internship experience enjoyable and enriching.

What was your favorite or most unexpected experience this summer?

Mauryan: An interesting experience this summer was being able to participate in GPP's high-profile client projects. I didn't expect to be given such responsibility so early on, but the team trusted us to contribute meaningfully. The fast-paced environment and the complexity of the project was challenging, but it was incredibly rewarding to see the impact of our work.
